John
Vice President, Operations
John is a professional engineer and LEED accredited professional based in the Loveland, Colorado, office. He supports the daily operations of the entire Western region for U.S. Engineering. Over the course of 14-plus years with the company, John has served as a project engineer, project manager, estimator and estimating manager.
"When I first arrived here, it was all about managing projects," he says. "Over time, I became more involved with the procurement and estimating side of things, due to the need for a core estimating department (in Colorado). I've gradually transitioned back into operations."
As Vice President of Operations, he supports project managers and jobsites in whatever way necessary. That includes overseeing project managers and engineers and their overall development, as well as maintaining relationships with clients, vendors and subcontractors.
"Most of my day is dealing with situations that involve others," he says. "You have to know how to prioritize, or else succumb to the chaos. At the end of the day, you'll always accomplish something ... it just may not be what you originally intended."
John has accomplished many things in his career and has helped co-workers accomplish many more. "During the waking hours of a week, I'm with my co-workers more than I'm with my family, and actually consider them my second family. I know if I have a problem at work, I'm not alone and have people who will help me." As for getting through the work week, he says things aren't always strictly business at U.S. Engineering. "This is a challenging yet very rewarding industry. We also like to have fun."
John has been married to his wife, Kristy, for 17 years. They have four children, Seth, Bryce, Logan and Raegan, who keep them very busy. When given the opportunity during the summer, the family loves to camp.
