Vicky

Safety Director

vicky_shieldsVicky began her career with U.S. Engineering nearly three decades ago and currently oversees the safety program for all employees and projects out of Loveland, Colorado office.

She joined the company working in the accounting department, but her job soon evolved into tracking safety statistics, serving on the Safety Committee and filing insurance claims. A former school teacher, Vicky has a natural talent for training which, combined with her increased knowledge of construction and occupational safety, helped lead to the creation years ago of her current position as Safety Director.

Her responsibilities include chairing the Safety Committee, supervising field safety coordinators, conducting training and orientations, and managing organizational risk. On the jobsite, she researches, plans and audits safety performance, and handles project-related insurance claims.

For Vicky, flexibility is the name of the game every day. "I might have to switch gears at any time. One minute I could be deeply involved in planning, then have OSHA show up on a job and require me to put on the work boots and head for the site," she says. "There's no shortage of variety."

And there's no shortage of respect from her coworkers at U.S. Engineering. "She is a recognized leader for her fair and consistent enforcement of our safety program," says Todd VonLintel, Special Contracts Division Manager. "She never feels like we couldn't do more, or be better, and that's what makes us one of the safest companies in the industry."

It's the company and her fellow employees that motivate and fulfill Vicky to get better every day. "The safety culture we have here allows all employees to go home safe and healthy every night," she says. "That's my real reward in this position."

Vicky is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the AGC Safety Committee, which she served for two years as co-chair. She's also a LEED Accredited Professional. She and her husband have been married 42 years and have two daughters and sons-in-law, and three grandchildren.
