DATA CENTERS
Sprint PCS
Lee's Summit, MO
U.S. Engineering Company was the mechanical contractor for this new data center with N+1 redundancy and a total cooling capacity of 2,500 tons. The N+1 redundancy applied to chillers, pumps and computer room A/C units. The project also contained both interior and exterior thermal storage tanks and redundant piping with main and sub piping loops. The primary chilled-water loop was based on 42°F chilled water with the secondary supply loop temperature of 48°F. The control system contained logic to switch to backup control loops for insured service 24/7, 365 days a year.
Five computer rooms were constructed in a phased approach, including one for the Sprint E-Solutions Division. U.S. Engineering led the effort to integrate all equipment in all computer rooms into one control system. Communications links with satellite facilities were also integrated into the central facility management system.
