FBOP Federal Correctional Institute
Hazelton, W.V.
U.S. Engineering Company was the mechanical design-build team member on this 535,000-square-foot Federal Correctional Institute for the FBOP.
The design-build team used a collaborative approach to defining scopes of work and hard/competitive pricing at the proposal stage of the project before the start of design.
The project encompassed multiple buildings, including three, four-level general housing units, a special housing unit, maintenance, personal services, health services, food services, recreational, inside and outside administration, vocational training and a UNICOR factory.
Building systems include:
- A central heating and cooling plant with buried site hydronic distribution piping
- Multi-zone air-handling units with energy recovery wheels for energy efficient systems in inmate buildings
- Combination multi-zone and VAV air-handling systems in other areas
- Integrated building automation system that ties all buildings’ HVAC systems together for more effective facility-wide energy management
