Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center
Denver, CO
This 1,500-bed, 461,000-square-foot detention facility provides Denver County with multi-custody detention for pre-sentenced individuals. Housing units are divided into general population, special management and medical areas with food service, laundry and support functions.
The Intake/Booking/Release area includes law enforcement vehicular access, inmate processing, temporary holding cells and medical evaluation areas. Also included are administrative areas for the Denver Sheriff’s Department and medical staff, two arraignment courts with associated support facilities, and a secured underground tunnel connecting the Detention Center to the Courthouse.
The mechanical system uses Xcel district-supplied steam and chilled water to heat exchangers located in the basement. The mechanical room provides heating water, domestic hot water and chilled water for both the Detention Center and Courthouse buildings while housing nine air-handling units, pumps, outside air systems, and other supporting mechanical equipment.
Our contract included roughly 33 percent certified M/WBE participation, and LEED® Silver certification was sought following completion.
