Wyoming Combined Lab Facilities
Cheyenne, WY
U.S. Engineering was awarded the Combined Laboratory Facilities project based on our firm’s ability to work in a team environment, provide a favorable project GMP and fees, manage the preconstruction process, work within the construction schedule and commit to delivering quality work on time per the construction schedules.
The single-story, 70,200-square-foot facility houses three Wyoming state labs: Department of Environmental Quality, Public Health Laboratories and the Department of Criminal Investigation, which includes a firing range, ballistics lab and combined DNA index system.
A unique feature in the facility is the variable air volume system for the general laboratories, with the installation of variable air volume-type air valves. The 2,000-square-foot BSL-3 laboratory space is a constant volume system with Phoenix venturi air valves and a complex exhaust air system. A similar system serves the 10,000-square-foot BSL-2 lab area. The exhaust system for the BSL-3 labs require fully welded stainless steel duct, and bag-in/bag-out HEPA filtration systems.
The Phoenix system works to precisely maintain room pressurizations and proper face velocities on fume hoods and ties in with the building's BAS system, allowing the state to remotely view and control the building's parameters.
Other building systems include:
- A fully redundant, 250-ton chilled water system, process cooling, humidification, lab water, lab gases and pure water system
- Five air-handling units and one roof-top unit, each with its own Energy Recovery Unit for great efficiency
- Four hot water boilers and one clean steam generator for the autoclaves and glass washers
- A Protegra re-circulating RO/DI system with UV sterilization in each lab
