Cargill Biodiesel and Glycerin Plant
Kansas City, MO

U.S. Engineering’s field staff, coordination and fabrication capabilities all played a key role in meeting a tight deadline at this joint-venture biodiesel/glycerin plant in downtown Kansas City, where soybean oil is processed into biodiesel fuel or pharmaceutical-grade glycerin.

We performed (without any accidents) the piping fabrication and installation scopes of work for this greenfield plant site. An accelerated schedule required fabrication and installation of 3 miles of carbon steel pipe, 1-1/2 miles of stainless steel pipe, and ½ mile of 2205 stainless steel pipe in a matter of four months.

Because the piping installation was performed in conjunction with the building steel erection, coordination between our field staff and our fabrication shops was crucial. Both the Kansas City and Tennessee shops were on the project, fabricating piping systems designed around B31.3 requirements, which included X-ray NDE inspection as part of the specification.
