SAFC Alpha Beta Project
Lenexa, KS

SAFC is recognized as a Top 10 global fine molecule supplier and trusted manufacturer of specialty chemicals and biologics for life science and high-tech industries. The Alpha Beta Project was an expansion of the SAFC Lenexa manufacturing facility in two separate areas.

The existing Animal Component Free (ACF) area was expanded and a new Animal Component Containing (ACC) area was installed both with new milling and blending technologies. Critical to the expansion of both areas was U.S. Engineering’s installation of high-purity piping systems to include clean compressed air, nitrogen, high-purity water, clean-in-place supply/return, and product piping.

Polished stainless steel tubing was specified and installed inside clean rooms, requiring GTAW (automatic orbital gas tungsten ARC welding) throughout. In order to meet the tight schedule and quality requirements, our Kansas City pipe fabrication shop played a key role. High standards for quality assurance and control required elaborate inspection and documentation for all high-purity piping.

In addition, U.S. Engineering conducted both underground and aboveground plumbing, as well as all mechanical piping and ductwork for two air-handling units and supply/return systems at both locations. The project was completed under an extremely demanding schedule, requiring elaborate and detailed planning on the move. As always, we were up to the challenge!
