Johnson County Communications Center
Olathe, Kansas

The Johnson County Communications Center is an emergency response (911) dispatch center as well as an emergency facility for county. As part of the design-build team US Engineering Company helped to evaluate systems cost vs. value to determine the most cost effective system to achieve LEED® Gold Certification and to provide the best value for the owner.

The building systems include:

  • Hardened facility to withstand F4 tornados. This required redundancy and systems distribution to serve both hardened and nonhardened spaces.
  • Under floor air distribution system for offices and data center.
  • Air cooled chillers and redundant air handling units for space conditioning.
  • Domestic water storage tank and pumping system for independent operation.

Extensive Preconstruction and early Project Management involvement were required in investigating multiple system alternatives.  Additionally, U.S. Engineering Company provided a three dimensional coordination model to assure no conflicts during construction.
