New Student Union
Kansas City, MO
U.S. Engineering was selected as part of a design-build team to perform mechanical work for the University of Missouri–Kansas City’s new Student Union. The 110,000-square-foot, four-story building replaced the existing union built in 1961.
U.S. Engineering involvement began early in the design stage, in a design-assist role with the general contractor and engineer. Our preconstruction team worked closely with the design team to meet the owner’s building requirements and ensure additional chilled water and steam capacity could be tied into the campus piping at a later date.
The building’s central plant also supplies chilled water to the adjacent Administration Building, as well as a steam to the campus loop at a future date.
Students and other UMKC constituents now have state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, a two-story bookstore, dinning area, coffee shop, theater and student use space.
This Student Union project was designed with the intent to apply for LEED® Gold certification.
