KCI Airport Terminal Upgrade
Kansas City, MO

As the mechanical contractor for the complete renovation of the KCI Airport, U.S. Engineering worked in all three terminals concurrently with each terminal broken down into four phases. Approximately one quarter of each terminal was shut down for the complete removal, relocation, and replacement of the HVAC and plumbing. Sixty-one new air-handling units were installed along with new main and branch chilled water and heating hot water lines, new ductwork, miscellaneous HVAC equipment, and testing and balancing. Approximately 8,000 feet of existing hot water piping was relocated and 6,000 new feet of chilled water mains were installed. The existing plumbing systems were completely gutted and new plumbing mains and branches were installed in each terminal. Approximately 400 new plumbing fixtures were installed with battery-operated flush valves and battery- operated faucets.

This project required a high degree of coordination with all trades, while performing on schedule, in confined areas, and in an operating airport with a high level of sensitivity to tenants and security. While performing each phase of work, we were required to maintain all utility heating and air conditioning in all other existing facilities. U.S. Engineering utilized the Kansas City piping and plumbing fabrication shops for prefabrication of all plumbing header skids and piping components, which greatly enhanced our overall productivity and quality.
